Hello,

I'm Andy, and I created FirePhrase over the course of 2023 - 2024, originally to help myself learn Swedish. Whilst there are plenty of courses aimed at beginners, I was frustrated at the lack of learning material to help me accelerate learning vocabulary after a beginner course. I found DuoLingo far too slow and far too restrictive, without the option to practice listening to long-form audio.

I also didn't want to be forced down the subscription route.

FirePhrase is built around my own personal learning style. It uses imagery, links to explore the phrase and words further, and slow and fast audio so I can compare my pronunciation with that of the speaker. It might not be for you, and that's why I have the starter packs all free - so you can try before you buy. Not everyone gets on well with flashcards.

It is all generated using Artificial Intelligence, as the models are now good enough for basic translation, audio and images (there will be the odd mistake or weird picture of course, but to make this material by hand would be unaffordable).

I released a few packs on Anki (the opensource flashcard platform), and thought others could benefit from what I had built, so I created decks in languages that had good audio and translation quality (the main European languages), setup my first Shopify store, and here we are!

The large packs will keep you going for 3 - 4 months and I think represent excellent value for money.

You will need to download Anki and know how to upload flashcard decks into the software. Plenty of guidance online or in our support pages on how to do that, but as this is a personal project I didn't want to go with the expense of building my own app.
